Chittagong Stock Exchange PLC (CSE) has organized an awareness program for CSE’s TREC Holder Companies on environment, social and corporate governance (ESG) reporting by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) yesterday at its Corporate Office in collaboration with the iota Consulting Bangladesh. Dr. Aditi Halder, Director and Ms. Anupama Gupta, Coordinator of GRI South Asia were present in the program along with Mr. Mohammed Golam Kibria, Founder & CEO of the iota. CSE’s Managing Director (Acting) Mr. Md. Ghulam Faruque, Chief Regulatory Officer (CRO) Mr. Mohammed Mahadi Hasan, CFA, Head of HR and Legal Affairs Ms. Sonia Hossain, other executives and other representatives from CSE TREC holders’ companies were also present in the event. Mr. M. Sadeque Ahmed, Head of Training & Awareness department of CSE coordinated the whole program.  

In her presentation on Corporate Sustainability Reporting Dr. Aditi mentioned about the GRI perspective and its reporting landscape. She mentioned the GRI Standards represent global best practice for reporting sustainability performance, enhancing the comparability and quality of information. It operates through a robust multi-stakeholder approach, ensuring participation and expertise of diverse stakeholders in the development of the GRI Standards. She aware that for not complying with this sustainability reporting compliance might be affected not only the society but definitely the business entities. Mr. Kibria also informed the participants about the involvement of relevant stakeholders is essential for sustainable reporting. Because through this, the stakeholders themselves can assess whether a company is following the rules properly. He also mentioned how a well-designed quality control plan and reporting helps in increasing the companies’ performances.

In his remarks, CSE Managing Director (Acting) Mr. Md. Ghulam Faruque stated that the topic and timing of the program are crucial for all parties involved in our capital market. According to him, investors are increasingly viewing a company's potential to create long-term value in relation to its integration of ESG policies and practices into its strategy and regular operations. The value proposition of a firm includes being transparent about how it addresses ESG opportunities and risks. Thus, these reporting are not only important but crucial with the organization's major objectives i.e. to safeguard investors, to ensure markets are fair, efficient, and transparent, and to reduce systemic risk.

 

CSE's CRO, Mr. Mahadi said to the audience how the GRI's comprehensive corporate reporting is affecting international policies and development in his vote of thanks. He expressed gratitude to the resource people for their current and pertinent presentation for our capital market’s stakeholders as well as to the participants for their interest in and intent to participate in this training.
